17. How does the friends system work?
You can read the details about our site on the
about page.
First, you can edit any dramas, films, people and roles you like to. Simply click 'edit' in the page.
Also, you can add your own dramas, films, people and roles by clicking on 'add' in the left toolbar.
Can everybody submit stuff?
Yes, every registered user can.
Actually we don't care who adds things, as long as it's high quality information. The submitting system works anonymously, so we can't see who adds what, therefore even newcomers can add and submit any information they want.
What is the 'merging' system and how does it work?
It's the process where the site's administrators and editors look at the stuff you contribute and verify it. It has two purposes:
1. To prevent any unwanted material from automatically entering mdl.
2. To verify the accuracy of what you enter, and the level of the data (i.e. is the picture high quality, does the synopsis have content / spelling / grammar errors).
In the almost absolute majority of cases, we merge, and your submission directly becomes a part of mydramalist. If the data is more than 60% satisfying (i.e. even if three fields are wrong), we still merge, sometimes even less.
My submission was rejected, why?
We only reject in case the series / person is already on mdl and you try to resubmit it, or the data is really worthless, which means the data is not related to Asian television or filmography or the information is completely wrong. And even in that case, we might be inclined to merge and then improve the article ourselves. Whatever you can help us with, we will look at seriously.
Also, after your submission was rejected there will almost always come a message from the administrators or the editors, telling you what was wrong in your submission.
How long must I wait until my submission is merged / rejected?
It depends on the quality of the submission. If you follow the guidelines strictly and all your information is right, your submission will probably be merged fast enough.
But, if there is a low quality picture, wrong sized picture, just no picture, the general information is wrong or whatever, the merging will be delayed.
Also, it may depend on how many merges are waiting, which you can see on the main page under 'queue'. Many merges waiting means more time until everything is done.
What is considered as a 'high quality submission'?
OK, so obviously the 'high quality' ones are submissions that follow the guidelines.
Anything you don't understand, you can ask any editor or administrator directly, leaving a message on their profile.
How do I know whether my submission was merged or rejected?
It's simple. You get an alert on the top of the page, telling you which of the two happened. Also, there will be (most of the time) a little note from who merged / rejected your submission.
How do I know who was the one to merge / reject my entry?
After the message from the administrator or the editor there will be a signature. You can basically click on it or search the user name in the user search.
Do I own my contributions?
Simply, no.
At the second you decide to publish your synopsis, review or whatever on mdl, you own it no more. You can't retain any copyright on your works.
What about copying from other sites or people? Can I copy and leave credit?
No. Even if you credit the original author, it presents us with a problem. You still have to ask for permission from the original author to post it, and even if you were granted it, they're free at their will to revoke that permission at any time. It's their stuff, after all.
We accept only hand-written synopses, which are unique and made only for mdl.
Who should I contact if I think the rejecting was wrong?
First, contact the one who rejected your submision, he/she will let you know the details. If you're still not satisfied, you can write to one of the administrators (Random chan or Hideki) about it in a private message.
Because mdl is a new site in construction, there are bugs from a time to time. You can report them to the administrators directly (by using the messaging system) or just write about it on the future forum, which will soon appear, but until then report directly to us.
Also, you can report us any wrong thing; like double person, drama, role, film or whatever.
How does the messaging system work?
It separated into 'private' and 'public' messages. The public ones any user can see on your profile but the private can be seen by only the specific user you're sending the message to.
You can see the messages on the 'message board' and on your profile.
I have a friend on mdl, how can we contact each other?
You can talk in messages, both private or public. We don't publish your emails, so that no one will use them to spam you. If you want to exchange emails, you always can do it on your own in the messages, but it's already your problem from there – we suggest to keep it private.
How can I add dramas / people to my list?
You can do it by first browsing them, and then from the searching index you can click 'edit', and then change the status on your list. Or from the top of the page, to click also on 'edit' next to your status.
How can I add dramas / people to my favorites?
By checking the 'fav' field in the adding drama to your list. You're limited to six favorite dramas and six favorite people.
How does the friends system work?
You may add anyone to your 'friends' list, by editing your relationship.
But, this system is one sided, like in life, not always the one you consider as friend is really your friend. That's why, when you add someone or someone adds you to his / her friends list, you get a message, telling you the user added you as a friend. You can add him back, or ignore it.
In your profile there always be shown two random friends.
Didn't get your answer? contact the administrators and he / she will answer your specific question.
