Very gripping and exceptional show. As a lot of people have mentioned, it keeps you on the edge of your seat as you watch Hanzawa fight and grapple through the corruption and internal politics of the bank.

Also, Ueto Aya was fantastic as his plucky and supportive wife. Loved her.

And in regards to the ending, I basically concur with d0npian0's comment on it.

@nyappyqueen I think I read somewhere that second season was confirmed but without Sakai Masato :(

Really great suspense drama with a good cast! :D No wonder it got so good ratings in Japan.
I also liked the realistic ending but I do hope for a 2nd season.

ok so I just finished this. Its my new favorite now and will be for a long time. I do feel that Japanese acting needs to tone down a little, but these actors were world-class, nobody disappointed me which is quite impossible :P

I think the chairman knows that Hanzawa is too capable and might overthrow him, so he most likely doesn't trust him or that Hanzawa's nature is too keen on taking revenge which is not how a bank (of all things) should operate, so he gave him a job in a department not even related to finance...i knew he'd keep Owada near him since the chairman knew he's a weak man. I don't think he should be trusted

either way, there needs to be more of this amazing show...if I could read Kanji, i would've read the novels already

I knew the ending wouldn't be as expected. It's not the first time that the director was hired for a show that didn't end well for the hero, so when Hanzawa was called to the chairman's office I just knew it would mean a demotion. I mean, honestly, he dug his own grave. No matter how well his performance is, he doesn't respect authorities and can and will bring down everyone in his way. Who would give someone like that even more power? The chairman obviously isn't just some nice old geezer, or else he wouldn't be on top of a bank that size. It makes sense to force Owada into gratitude and to make sure that Hanzawa can't hurt him.

@inuwashi
Yeah, I read up on it. Apparently this one adapted the first two books, and there's two more, with the latest not being finished yet. So I assume they are waiting for new material.
