hidde's on point with their perspective on this drama. This had some great dialogue and solid chemistry, with very real characters. If you're the type who expects some fluffy, sugarcoated shoujo rom-com, this isn't for you. Saying that, though this had some emotional and heavy scenes, it also had a lot of great comedic banter to balance it out. I especially loved the connection between Eita and Machiko's characters.

The ending for me was left ambiguous and bittersweet. I'm sure a lot of people weren't fond of it, but I think it was an appropriate and somewhat hopeful? ending.

Finally watched the sp...I've been avoiding it because
I know Mitsuo and Yuka will break up ;_;. Their conversation at the ending was really heartbreaking, but that was real indeed. There's no magic button that can make a sudden happy ending for them. Just like what Yuka said, "Happiness for me is not your happiness. Happiness for you is not my happiness." Both of them still love him/herself more than their partner. When none of them wants to sacrifice their own happiness, of course they won't achieve a greater happiness of being together. The sad thing is when Mitsuo wants to talk about it once more, Yuka said she didn't want Mitsuo to change. I don't agree with Yuka about that, because changes are needed in a healthy relationship, but I understand her feeling. She's already got hurt a lot, feeling guilty and just don't want them to continue hurting each other. I think she need more time. I hope she reads the letter.
What I love about saikou no rikon is not only the balance of the brilliant comedy and the drama, but also how the characters felt real. Most of the time in rom-com drama world, love is portrayed as blind and shallow, like "I love you, you love me and that's enough". Not in here. We see how marriage is not a simple matter, growing old together with someone is not that easy. And there's actually TWO endings in this sp, we can learn a lot from the two couples.

me at the end of the special :
...... what the... nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooO 8'(((

am i actually wishing i never watched that sp ? idk. i loved it because it still was as great as the drama and saikou no rikon was/is probably my fav drama ever but... but... i didn't sign for such a down to earth and bittersweet ending no i wasn't prepared for that. i swear i cried. the title "2014 SP" somehow makes me think there could be a "2015 SP" sequel to see them a year later but... i'm not sure.

The ending was unexpected but oh-so-real.

This special has my heart, like the drama had. Good. Really really good (but I may be biased).
