Joseon, 1867. Jin Chae Seon is an orphan raised by gisaengs, fascinated by the traditional musical storytelling called 'pansori', an art reserved to men. Despite her gender, Chae Seon manages to convince pansori teacher Sin Jae Hyo to accept her in his school, and begins a hard training to learn how to sing properly, becoming the first female pansori singer. The king's father, Prince Heung Seon, fancies Chae Seon and brings her to the palace to be his concubine.
