Mitsuko's father is the school principal of the local school she frequents. Her mom, Sayuri, is notably younger than her father and seems to live the life of a normal housewife, not doing particularly much other than caring about her appearance and husband. Living with her parents in a big house, everything seems to work just like in a normal, almost perfect family. That is, until Mitsuko comes back home and perceives some strange noises coming from upstairs. Curious about the origins of these noises, she investigates and discovers that they come from her parents' bedroom and as the door is unlocked she sees a scene that might not quite be a traditional sight for a girl of her age. While watching her parents play lustful games the terror begins when her father notices her presence. On the next good occasion, he forces Mitsuko to hide in the parents' bedroom in a cello case equipped with a peep hole. What is the meaning of all this?

As its name suggests, it's a really strange film.

In the beginning, I thought it wouldn't be but a strange film with no actual plot. But as it progressed, the plot deepened and everything became tangled up. It was pretty hard trying to figure out what was going on, since reality and dreams could not be easily told apart.

Some scenes were not pleasant to watch, but the story that is told can be pretty realistic. It's an interesting but tragic tale.

Epic Genius. This is the 7th film by Sono Sion that i've seen and I think it's one of his best.

personally, the movie is very good!

the plot is very different and bizarre, like many movies I've seen the same author.

So much beauty shines through such a dark, unsettling story. This film is certainly not easy to sit through, especially the second time around... but that's one of the reasons it's always stuck with me. I've never seen such a psychological spiral brought to life this way. Sono doesn't pull any punches.

Aaah, that's a good point. I guess I should just say "be prepared before you watch this." :]

And here I have to concur with the comments below. This film is in its own delusive way hiding a core permeated throughout by reality, by the unmentioned truth, by the taboos that are being concealed behind the thick walls of abodes. I truly recommend this to anyone, even to those with faint hearts..because everybody ought to see also the other side of society.

I loved it too, it's one of my very favorite movies. (: I myself have rewatched it twice now; I just think it's really powerful, and that it's probably not for everyone. I definitely recommend checking it out though, so long as you can handle a bit of mature content. Fans of the Psychological/Horror genre are sure to love this.
