For a show that seemed to promise a lot about blending mystery with comedy and romance, My Secret Hotel unfortunately manages to fall flat on pretty much all fronts.
The show starts off promising. We have a strong, successful female lead whose doing well for herself. There's your typical hero, who despite having a dark past is willing to go for the romance, and a second male lead that's endearing despite his flaws. The murder mystery is introduced well, and the side characters given great personalities of their own.
Unfortunately, the show then loses focus. The mystery is an afterthought, any side character development non-existant unless required to move the plot forward. And the romance? Becomes so lopsided you're pretty much rooting for the girl to walk away.
Because one male lead is so mysterious that you can't quite connect with him. And the second? So childish and immature that it's a miracle anyone puts up with him or takes him seriously.
Information is given out too slow and the plot loops in circles, essentially telling the same plot points for ten or so episodes.
The saving grace is that everyone seems to be having fun in their roles and the acting is passable. There won't be accolade's for anyone, but it's definitely no one's worst gig.
Watch if you're a fan or in a dry spell, pass otherwise.
