I suggest reading the writer/director's interviews on the film. They really put things into perspective. This is a very personal film for him.

What I gather is that the film is circling around the subject of death reasoning using different religions. Religions are meant to give answers to questions that science cannot give. When an experience goes beyond the boundaries of human/scientific understanding, it can be "explained" in many different ways. The protagonist appears to be non-religious, so he has a hard time choosing who/what to believe. All the way through the end, he fully believes in nothing except the love he feels for his family. And he is constantly tormented by one question - "why?", "why is this happening to us?". Had he been a believer perhaps his question would be answered, but the results would be the same, because this is the way of the world.

Boring from the beginning to the end. I had a hard time finishing it.

I really liked the moments of tension and doubt that this movie presented, but I got kinda confused, like:
if Il Gwang was 'conspiring' together with the foreigner, why would he supposedly pray for Buddha to protect him? At that time he couldn't possibly be 'normal', since it happened after that woman in white stopped him from entering Jong Gu's house.

I met Na Hong Jin the director, some years ago, nice guy, he told me how much he like 'Memories of murder', but seriously this time it's more than just influence here...that's sad actually! What's the pupose to make a rip off?

the last half hour puts our doubts to rest, but doesn't quite satisfy the ending of the whole movie...i really loved the cinematography and the story captured my interest throughout, but I wish the ending could have been better and explained a few more things

I really enjoyed this movie. A quite surprising mix of a typical Korean thriller and those fairytales one used to read as a child.
