Synopsis

Yang Mi Ja is an elderly woman who has a side job as a maid where she takes care of an older man who suffers from the consequences of a stroke, but that alone doesn't give her enough financial support. She lives with her rude grandson whose mum lives somewhere in Busan. When she sees a poster about a poetry class she recalls how she's been told in the past that she has a poetic vein in her and thus decides to join the classes. As her poetic journey starts where she tries to find out how to write poetry tragic events don't fall short on following her on this path.

I didn't understand everything in this movie ... but it had a big effect on me.

This movie was good for me, but I gave him only "average". Watching this film is a hassle for me. For several days I was looking for the second part, and maybe that's why so low rating.

Sadly I had to watch this raw, in our Korean language class, so we didn't get the whole plot from the start (until our teacher explained some stuff) but overall it was a good movie.

3/5 : Enjoyable

The plot was deep and unsettling.
Characters were perfectly presented. Not too deep, not too superficial unless need be.
The poetry was on the notch, with fleeting fragility.

Sadly, I was disappointed by the visuals which felt out of place, rough and not thought through amongst the poetry of it all.

Really sad and the behaviour of the parents is so shocking.

This one might get me in the theaters... something I very rarely do.

This is a life film. It's slow paced, and thus might not be attractive to some. But nonetheless it was an enjoyable watch. It made you realise that if one wants you can make everything beautiful, even the most random object could turn into a poetic inspiration. At the same time, this film reminded of how lonely old people can be, even if they have 'family'. I really felt how she fell out of the clouds when she was told that she has Alzheimers, and how she couldn't tell anyone. Living with an irresponsible grandson, her daughter being somewhere in Busan,..and then the tragic news she had to discover about her grandson's behaviour...somehow I really liked this film. I even shed a few tears at the end as the last lines of her 'goodbye' poem flew through the screen.
