That drama was really good, it’s been a long time since I enjoyed a drama so much. The only 2 things that I didn’t like in this drama is Nameless and Shin Se Kyung’s acting in the second half of the drama. She was really good in the first half but, for some reasons, she got really bad afterwards. I was not able to pick any emotion on her face and that made romantic scenes really awkward. Thankfully, she was not on screen too often then. About Nameless/Moomyung, it was not the best antagonist and it really got me bored. Even if I really enjoyed Queen SD, it felt like a forced connection.

As for the great things, there are really too many to enumerate but my favourites are Moo Hyul and the sceneries. I loved Moo Hyul to bits from the start, he was so adorable and funny. And then, he got an update in badass but he still remains soft at heart and adorable. Him and his grand-mother are the ones who made me cried the most in this drama. As for the sceneries, let me tell you I would have taken an entire drama filmed in autumn colours! I wish it would not have been almost 100% in winter, because each time I think about the actors freezing, it reminds me that I’m not watching a real story and it breaks the flow. But really, the summer, autumn AND winter sceneries were so beautiful! It was just really funny all that snow in early August, haha!

I have so much to say about this drama I'm not sure how to put it in words or where to even start. It was a MARVELOUS drama - probably the best 50 episodes I have ever watched. Each and every single episode was equally entertaining, I never got bored, and could watch few episodes straight.

I grew attached to most of the characters in the drama. I loved it how the writers created the fictional characters (Boon Yi, Ddang Sae, etc.) to kind of explain the decisions made by the real historical figures (Bang Won, Seong Gye, Do Jeon, etc.). It's not a secret King Taejong remains a very controversial person in Korean history. On one hand, he was a monster who did not hesitate to kill anyone who stood on his way to the throne, but on the other hand, he was the one who remembered about the poorest. At the beginning, the role of Boon Yi seemed pretty clear to me -
she was the poor little girl who fought for the change, but when she decided to go neutral I thought her existance in the drama just lost its purpose. Luckily, I was mistaken. I think Boon Yi was created to remind people Lee Bang Won still had this pure, tender side of him, even when everyone else saw him as a monster.
Thanks to that, viewers still had the chance to judge Lee Bang Won themselves.

My favorite character in the drama was definitelly Ddang Sae/Lee Bang Ji (oh how I wish he was a real historical figure!). I wasn't aware of Byeon Yo Han beforehand, and I deeply regret it. He was AMAZING in the drama. I have never seen such an oustanding actor, who could put all the emotions into his eyes. He made me believe every single thing he said, I felt all of his emotions, I went through all the hardships with him - he was THAT GOOD. Definitely going to check out all of his works!

It's kind of scary how history likes to repeat itself. I saw a lot of similarities between the turbulent times in 14 century and the horrible times in the 20th century during the Korean War. We had 2 sides with very different ideas of how the perfect country should look like and that caused brothers fight with each other.

Just to sum it all up. This drama is a MASTERPIECE in every single aspect - plot-wise, acting-wise, soundtrack-wise, scenery-wise, etc. Highly recommend!

Amazing drama. I just finished it, and even though it made me frustrated sometimes because
character's change of mindsets, schemes between group of people I adored when they were together, but in the end they split up into 'two camps'. I get both side's motivation to act, even though they both seemed to stopped looking at the damages they caused along the way. The bigger goal. It's hard to look at it that way. I rooted for Lee Bang Won team, even though I felt too much evil coming from him during the end. Maybe it's because the drama focused more at his point of view, we got to see his emotions more and basically his whole journey.
It's really hard to describe, the feels are everywhere. I think that there is no right answer to who was right and who was wrong in this drama.

5 stars.

An interesting watch that focused mainly on politics, making it feel so realistic that parts of it felt more like a dramatised documentary.

That includes the evolution of the characters.
From idealists to seeking power no matter the cost
All of them are flauded. I have to warn everyone, this is not a happy watch you get sad you cry and you get angry.

During the end you can't root for any of the characters you are just watching the events unfold

I gave it a rating of 5. But I wouldnt recommend to everyone. Only to people who are interested in history and politics.

Very solid story. It keep me interested from the beginning to the end. The plot is quite realistic and I'm glad the writer didn't include radiculous makjang like parts.
