Ever since their first meeting, Hong Seol thinks there is something odd about Yu Jeong. Though, it seems as if she is the only one around who can see past his perfect person act that everyone else falls for. But only after returning to university Seol truly becomes confused. Yu Jeong, who was almost ignoring her previously, now seems to be trying to get close to her.
I have not watched the manga or the web toon and i don't have plans to. i am saying this because a lot of those who watched the webtoon version got disappointed. In my case, i find the drama special and very relatable to my college experience. It is like watching Hong Seol as one of personlalities I knew. Same with all the other characters in the drama. We would probable encounter people like them.
I like the Hong Seol as being a straight student and a straight lover. And her character can be complimentary to Yu Jeong being both straight and secretive and cynical. I love her character being understsnding and her patience as far as she can ( given her age and experience and family background). It suited well for Yu Jeong's personality as if he lack love but was given too much attention.
I also love Baek in Ho. I love his character- his patience, persistence and his love for Hong Seol. I can feel his love for music is as deep as his relationship with Hong Seol. There were times I wished that Hong would just fall for him instead.
The other characters including her friends and his friends are like people we would meet in real life. This is the reason why I love this drama. It also remind me of It's okay that's love kind of personalities and the setting of the drama in Reply 1997.
However much as I loved the characters, there were epiosdes where I missed Yu Jeong. I was hoping a liitle more of his appearances in the later part of the drama. But I guess it paved way for Baek in Ho's appearances.
What I dont love and cant understand is Baek in Ha. It is like watching another drama inside the drama. I felt like she does not fit into the whole picture. I dont know if it was her acting or the character.. It is just too much to watch. She is like all over the place and very predictable and evil.
Other than that, I love it and I would recommend it. For those who loved reply 1997, it maybe a different story all together but the taste is almost the same for me.
I think its important to first start that no matter what the ending for this was doomed to have some issues since the web toon is still on-going and its clear after about the first 4 episodes that the writers/producers of the drama didn't really care to focus on much of the original material.
As someone who reads the webtoon I really liked this at the start but got frustrated after a bit because of how the characters were handled. So many unnecessary scenes with In Ho and the piano. In Ho and other stuff...just so much..like filler fluff scenes that could have been spent really developing the other characters. Its very puzzling as to why In Ho somehow managed to become such a HUGE focus when all that screen time didn't really do much but just give him more screen time and have other characters on the back burner.
Thanks to that Yu Jung really had less shown development, in fact at the end of this drama it feels as if Yu Jung is still left being forced to hold everything in...which means he's right back to how things were to begin with. I grew to really dislike In Ho here which is strange because in the webtoon I enjoy him more although he's not nearly as "nice" there as in the drama. I really really hope that at some point in the future we can get a remake of this (though I know its too much to wish that they get Park Hae Jin back, though I would want that so bad as he embodies his role perfectly). Its no surprise that he won the award for best actor.
