When the company of Mae Ri's father goes bankrupt again, the both of them eventually receive help from an old friend of the family. This friend helps them to pay off all their debts, but Mae Ri is of the opinion that there's no free lunch in this world: Her father's friend wants her and his son to marry, and while Mae Ri pretends to marry another guy, she gets stuck between the totally different boys in a 100 day deal.
I had high hopes for this drama, maybe too high. I was really excited to see Jang Geun Seok and Kim Jae Uk in one drama and the plot seemed really great. And it really started off good, I enjoyed the first half of the drama a lot. But I think it was eps 9-11 that totally bored me, no matter how hot the leads are or adorable Mary. The drama kinda lacked a good storyline for me, somehow I wasn't interested in the story but instead the cute and funny little moments. Because there wasn't a great plot behind it, you always knew it's going to be Gang Mu Gyeol and Byeon Jeong In never even had a chance. I didn't like how they made his character suffer so much, that was really sad. And another thing was the female lead, Mary, she was totally cute and sweet but that was it. It was really too bad she was such a weak character, she rarely did anything, always depending on others.
What I liked a lot was their "gang", I always loved those scenes where they were sitting together, drinking and having lots of fun. And of course the last 30 minutes of the drama were great. They should've done the whole living together thing long before that. I would've loved to see more of that, so funny the interactions between Byeon Jeong In and Gang Mu Gyeol ;D
Ah... I'm so sad I finished this Drama, though I had a very ambivalent time watching it. During the first (few? I don't remember whether it was only the first) episode(s) I thought this was really boring, because of the typical good-for-nothing-father-being-chased-by-debt-collecters thingy while being a big burden for his daughter... than things were really nice up to episode eight, but I felt it was kind of hard to watch because it was dragging in some scenes and I absolutely HATED the two father's and Mary letting herself be pushed around by them.
But then, after the eighths episode, I started to totally fall for it. Up to eight I would've given it maybe three stars, but after everything turned out exactly the way I wanted it to I was thrilled. Episode fiftenn was an absolute disaster, but I knew it had to be and actually it was fun getting really angry and upset about what happened and I think that I got so upset only shows how much I've come to love the characters, all of them.
I think the characters were the strong point of this Drama, especially the director, Mu Gyeol and Seo Jun, but I also liked Lee Ahn in the end. Personally, I also loved Mary a lot, because even though I didn't like the way she reacted sometimes, I could relate to her and even if I disliked what she did I could always understand her and had to admit that most of the time I probably would've done the same as she did. I also loved her because of her style and looks, the stylists did an amazing job with her. Even though Mun Geun Yeong is no beauty, Mary was. Nevertheless her character could've been a little more profound.
The other characters were also very well dressed, especially Kang Mu Gyeol.
In addition to the characters the atmosphere of the Drama added lots of plus points. The areas it was filmed at, the flats of the characters, everything had a very unique and genuine charm. Plus the cameramen did an amazing job in capturing the beautiful autumn and snowy winter scenery of Seoul.
I was also very content with the characters developement, but I don't want to say too much about that in case you haven't watched the Drama yet. I can just say that especially Kang Mu Gyoel and Seo Jun develop a lot and quite realistically.
What TOTALLY pissed me off but was STILL part of the charm of the Drama were the parents. Totally mad. Obsolete. Pathetic. I was kind of sad that (maybe except for Mary's father) they didn't change one bit, not even in the very end... but that's how it is, I guess, most parents won't change anymore given their age and we children have to deal with them.
The ending was nice, too, not too sudden, not too unrealistic and not too overly perfect, but thanks to all of this perfect in another way...
Even though I have a lot of critique I still rated this as a masterpiece, because all the positive aspects sum up to outweigh the negative ones completely. I'm REALLY sad this is over... uhm, 2nd season please? Nah, I know this won't happen because viewer levels weren't so good, but one can still be dreaming, right?
And last but not least... JANG GEUN SEOK YOU WERE AWESOME AS KANG MU GYEOL <3333333333 some fangirling.
