Though, not quite a masterpiece (as Old Boy is my basis of comparison for everything in Korean cinema), it is a spectacular movie. So Ji Seop and Han Hyo Ju portray their roles exquisitely... the lonely man with the dark shameful past and the bright young women who never gave up, though she lost her sight... both were perfectly depicted. The production of the movie was spot on, conveying the darkness and lightness of the characters through the scenes in a poetic sort of manner. Like many Korean films of a serious nature, the dialog is minimal and barely needed, for the gestures, looks, scenes, etc... are masterful in expressing everything that needs to be said or felt. If My Drama List had half stars I would give this 4.5, but it rates higher than a 4, so I give it a 5.
Both series are about a man with a dark and violent past that comes back to haunt him, and the blind women he falls in love with. Though Always has a more lighthearted feel throughout the film, both Always and That Winter The Wind Blows have a very similar feel and plot.
