Aah Galileo; how far have you fallen..

Considering run of the mill detective dramas, not far at all. But if you judge/value this by it's first season (granted it's been more than 5 years that I've watched it so my recollection is not pristine but filtered thru lenses of nostalgia) you will find it lacking.
At least I did.

First the good things:
I love continuation of the team stories so it was fun seeing Kuribayashi-san as the assistant still trying to prevent Yukawa sensei to be involved with the police.

The parade of guest cast was impressive. They were very good, sometimes even better than Yoshitaka Yuriko as main.

The bad:
The science was very weak. To camouflage this the police and the police procedures was turned into jokes.
There was CSI going thru crime scenes without coming up with anything, a medical examiner treated like a lab person (there to tell you what the body contained like poisons and such and not much else) and no police work.
in all the cases the criminal is the one that the police would investigate first. Like if the husband is dead; the police would look at the wife first or the last person to see someone alive is the first suspect etc. Here the police did none of that, instead the scriptwriters let Yukawa sensei to point them things like the time of death, the possible suspects to move the focus from weak science.

At first season Yukawa sensei was only interested in science and the policing was done by Utsumi Kaoru. Here, nearly everything is done by Yukawa sensei.

The mysteries was not very interesting. You could identify the suspects from a mile away and wait for Yukawa sensei to tell you the how and the why.

Yoshitaka Yuriko. I don't know why they decided against Shibasaki Kou as Utsumi Kaoru but they somehow clicked. Not so with Kishitani Misa. I am not sure if the sole reason is bad writing, bad acting or maybe I liked the Yukawa-Utsumi combo too much and unconsciously disliked Kishitani-san but I just wasn't excited to watch their antics as I did the first season.

TL/DR:
This is an ok detective drama and if you were a fan then a good one to watch. Just don't expect anything like the first season. If you absolutely loved the first season then you may want to skip this keep remembering the perfect detective drama

Episodes 9-11 were good.

I'm big fan of the first season so I can't help to compare both. The cases are better on the Galileo 1. There's not much science on this series comparing to the previous one. I liked how Yukawa tried to prove that the crime is nor supernatural phenomen. On Galileo 2 Kishitani makes Yukawa to solve the crime more based on his guess and deduction than science. Looks like the writer run out of ideas.
I still enjoyed this drama. The climate is same.

episode 8 is the best episode so far

I totally forgot how much I enjoyed Galileo. I can't really remember season 1 because it's been so long but I have the vague impression that I preferred Shibasaki Kou over Yoshitaka Yuriko. Ultimately I liked both though.
And yeah, maybe some thing seem a bit far-fetched and stuff but the whole point of the show is to have a scientist solving crimes and this is television, so I quite like it the way it is.

@malice and @sasum.... I agree, I prefer the cases in season 1. season 2 felt like the typical detective dramas with loop holes and exagerated acting of Yukawa sensei. hahaha. It has been 6 years since I've seen season 1 so I dont clearly remember how Yukawa sensei was back then but I remember that he was just calm and compose.
