Answer Me 1988 follows its predecessors in being a successful story about youth and the trials of growing up.

This time around, the focus is more on families, with the parents stepping in to play a larger role. And it works out great, as the relationships become more meaningful because this isn't just about five families who happen to live on one street, it's more about one large family who happen to live in different houses.

The acting is great, with the ensemble cast melding well. From the veteran parents to the new-actor kids all embrace their roles; willing to do what's necessary to make the characters heartwarming.

The writing, like all the shows in this series, knows how to create a world that's fulfilling, making even small moments seem monumental. The slice-of-life approach gives everyone a chance to grow and the time-jumps shown in an effective way so that it isn't too jarring. It makes you yearn to have lived on this street with everyone.

The only weak point is that each episode's run time is long, so there's the occasional moments where the plot slows down. But because it often picks the pace up again, and because everyone is just so lovable, it's a small point in a large, successful show.

A definite recommend.

It was my first attempt to 'Reply' series so I didn't really know what to expect. I went through first 4 episodes and it finally was getting more and more interesting so in the end I can certainly say that I enjoyed the drama a lot. I totally fell in love with the characters, their relations and whole families! Episodes were kinda long but in the long run it really didn't matter. I got emotional many times. Ahhh literally the amount of feels it gave me!! Definitely a drama to rewatch one day.

This drama is pure LOVE! Really pure LOVE!! It took me time to finish it because I was so immersed in it, I couldn't say goodbye to all the characters! This drama was almost perfect -> it lacks 1 last eps to tell all the unsaid stories about some characters (how they ended) &
how the neighborhood react to the main couple!! I wanted sooo much to see DS & Taek wedding I feel kinda disappointed they didn't show it.

What I love most about this drama, and what make it the best Reply to me, is that it portrayed different kind of love : love for your parent, for your children, for your friends, for your siblings & for your neighborhood! It's really a family drama and it makes the best of it!! No angst was need to make this story touching & heartbreaking.
As for the main couple :
I was team Taek since the beginning so I was really happy that DS end up with him BUT JW broke my heart!! He loves her so much but wasn't courageous enough to tell her. Taek was always true to his feelings and that what makes the difference. And OMG the friendship between Taek & JW was so touching, the fact that each one back off from pursuing DS when they knew the other one was in love with her make me cried a river!! In the end, I really feel bad for JW & the fact that we don't know how he end up is really so frustrating!!

Nevertheless, this drama is a must watch people!!

@jihye buracos no roteiro que foram "tampados" as pressas, mas não vou entrar em detalhes já que pra você fez sentido :)

@jessicalvs posso perguntar pq vc acha ilógico o fim? Pq para mim fez tanto sentido
jessicalvs 25 Jan, 2016
@keepingbreath for me too. I still can't get over how illogical those last 3 eps were to me.

@eriinnye I got it. But that's what I mean by so-much-drama. I liked much more the way they did it in the others series, like in 1997 when Dad was sick, in 1994 when Hae Tae calls his mother afraid that she got in the accident (it was so nice how they put it together with mothers feelings when their children go to a big city) or when Jo Yun Jin finds her mother with Sam Cheon Po.

Here there were some good to. Like when Ra Mi Ran gives Mother money or Choe Mu Seong helps Kim Seon Yeong with the house, but most of it was too dramatic and the really funny parts typical of Reply Series were almost none here.

@jessicalvs too sad for my broken heart :(
I think it was originally planned to
leave Deok Seon and Jeong Hwan end up together, but something happened in the last episodes and the ending was hastily rewritten. At least for me 18-20 episodes seemed too crumpled and forced.
