Momo is an average highschool girl with insecurities about her skintone which is a little bit too dark. The girl who she thinks is her best friend, Sae, actually hates her and plots to take away everything Momo likes, including her love interest. Things get quite crazy for Momo when Kairi, one of the most popular boys in her school, confesses his love to her and Sae starts a rumour about them, when in fact, Momo is in love with her childhood friend, Touji.
I’m not sure if I ever watched the original Peach Girl anime when I was younger or if I just remember hearing so much about it that I knew the story. Either way, I watched this movie after stumbling upon a really well-done fanmade music video and I pretty much got what I expected: a live action version of a shojou manga.
The story progresses fast (because: movie) which really made the different plot points seem even more ridiculous. The misunderstandings were immature and by-the-book but I suppose if I was in high school I would probably not mind as much and enjoy it more.
It was cute, overall, but nothing substantial. Would recommend it for a rainy day and nostalgia for some Japanese entertainment.
