Yamashita Takako, a single mother, frequently visits a certain Chinese restaurant in the hope of recruiting its chef, Wang Qing Guo, for the department store she works at. Unexpectedly, she falls in love with the food and comes back almost every day for lunch. She even tries to recreate the flavour at home, though she fails miserably. When Wang suffers a stroke and becomes unable to cook, it seems that the restaurant will have to be closed. However, despite his reluctance, Takako quits her job at the department store and becomes Wang's apprentice. In the end, she manages to learn his techniques and recreate his flavour, the flavour of happiness.
