"Everything I'm about to tell you is a joke, so don't take it too seriously"

That is how begins one of the most hypnotic trips that I've ever experienced in a film, I've already seen 65 films from Miike and I think that this is one of his most fascinating for its weird story and creepy characters.

In one of the first scenes of the film we see a Yakuza throwing a Chihuahua against the show window of a restaurant because, according to him, it is a dog trained to kill Yakuzas. This is one of the first absurd scenes that this film contains, as the film goes we see a woman milking her own breasts (Miike must have some fetish with it as this is seen in Visitor Q too for multiple times), another scene where a Yakuza sticks a golf club inside of his anus so he can get an erection.. and so on.

Despite being one of my favourite films, I can't recommend it for people who are not used to alternative stuff. Even for those who are into Asian cinema, I would recommend it only for who have seen previously other films from this director so that they can get his sense of humor. Also, I would never recommend it for friends in real life as they would think that I had some kind of problem.

It is a film hard to explain and even for the most well-founded theory that attempts to explain the 'meaningless' scenes from it and even its own message, it is one of those films that you take for the feelings that it causes you and for the strangeness of the images.

I can't even put it into a genre, it had moments that terrified me and it had other moments too that made me laugh a lot. The ending is genius!

So this isn't the most normal film I've ever seen

Another masterpiece from Takashi Miike. Gozu is one of the best movies I ever seen in my life.

Takashi Miike meets David Lynch. What a beautiful and disturbing mindfuck, one of Miike's best if not his best (need to re-watch Visitor Q to confirm that).
